The Frontier prairie located at our headquarters in Norway, Iowa, was dedicated as The Kathy Krezek Larson Tallgrass Prairie upon the retirement of Vice President of Sustainability Kathy Larson this spring.

Kathy had a profound influence on Frontier in her three decades of work here. Her knowledge of herbs and aromatherapy was key to establishing Frontier’s expertise in those areas, she established our uncompromising product standards as quality assurance manager, and she was central to the development of Frontier’s social responsibility programs.

Frontier employees gathered to celebrate the dedication of the prairie.

After we purchased farmland surrounding our Norway facilities, Kathy championed the effort to re-establish 21 acres of tallgrass prairie and a surrounding eight-acre buffer of native hedgerow plants. In 1992, she led Frontier employees in hand-sowing the seeds of prairie grasses, native wildflowers and the border of sheltering shrubs.

She visits the prairie frequently and treasures the plants growing there, making it an especially fitting tribute to her Frontier legacy.

Kathy provided the Cayenne Room with numerous posts about her prairie walks, highlighting the seasonal activities with beautiful photos. To learn more about the tallgrass prairie, visit our tallgrass prairie web page.
